After a Covid break the Friends of Chester Mystery Plays were pleased to be able to meet once again. Andrew and Jeanne were our hosts and their Chester garden the venue for a very enjoyable September afternoon get-together.

Around 40 members enjoyed wine and canapés and the welcome chance to catch up with Friends old and new. The raffle was as popular as ever and raised over £200.

Ian Sanderson, Chairman of the Chester Mystery Plays, introduced the Friends to John Young who has been appointed Artistic Director for the 2023 cycle of plays. John spoke about how much he was looking forward to the production and to be presenting the historic Plays in his adopted home city of Chester.

The weather wasn’t perfect with intermittent light rain showers keeping everyone under canvas for much of the afternoon.  However it didn’t dampen the spirits of those who attended, keen to meet the new Director and question him about his artistic vision.
