A huge success in both 2016 and 2017, this new collaborative project saw Chester Mystery Plays and Theatre in the Quarter join with Churches Together in Chester City Centre and Link Up to produce a dramatised Way of the Cross in the streets of Chester on Good Friday morning.
The performance started at the Eastgate Street clock with Jesus' entry to Jerusalem and the Last Supper at the Cross, processing towards Town Hall Square for Gethsemane and the Trial, finishing at the West door of the Cathedral with the Crucifixion. Community actors joined with the Passion chorus, drawn from Chester Mystery Plays, Theatre in Quarter, church choir and community performers and Chester schools. The engrossing performance featured Matt Baker’s captivating music from the last three productions of the Mystery Plays, working as an exciting prelude to the next cycle of the plays.
